I'm a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English Language Education at the Education University of Hong Kong and the Director of the Community of Practice (CoP) eTEACHERS.online (https://eteachers.online).
I'm the recent author of a self-published work of autofiction, Hospital Windows. The story was inspired by my teaching of a life writing course and my personal experience as a member of the Baha'i Faith. If you're interested in reading it, please order a copy from this website or just let me know.
I recently served as the Associate Head of the Department of English Language Education (seven years); the Chairman of the Advisory Committee for the English Subject to the English Unit of the Hong Kong Education Bureau and Examinations Authority (three years); and the Field Experience Coordinator for English major programs (seventeen years).
My aspiration as a teacher and teacher educator has been to help English teachers and students experience engaging, meaningful and effective learning experiences in a variety of informal and formal contexts. I teach students in undergraduate and post-graduate pre-service English teaching programs and conduct courses and professional development workshops for in-service teachers.
At the Department of ELE at EdUHK, I'm engaged in several projects assisting colleagues and in-service local teachers enhance their teaching effectiveness using technology. The aim of these projects is to assist students to experience learning that is more creative, effective and enjoyable. The purpose of this website is to share some of those.
One of the projects that I led recently is "Learning English with Little Leaf", an animated series - with associated e-books, online activities and teaching materials - to help primary students learn English. One of the most engaging and meaningful classes of my teaching career was "Writing Your Life." My students engaged in reflection and writing about their most profound and important life experiences. Other courses I have taught include ELT Methodology; Effective Use of e-Resources in ELT; Teaching Grammar-in-Context; and Introduction to Linguistics.
I served as the English subject Field Experience Coordinator for EdUHK for seventeen years, working with student-teachers and local host schools on the teaching practicum for qualified teacher status. That position gave me the opportunity to visit many local schools every year and keep in touch what's going on in the frontlines of language education as teachers coped with a constantly changing education landscape.
